Cultural differences

Lately N. and I had a couple discussions about eyes and mouth regarding what is more important to recognize emotions? Or when painting what is more important to paint correctely. I had learned in an art course I took years back in Germany, that the mouth is essential if people should recognize the person in an portray; N. learned it is the eyes. We tried a coupled times by looking at celebrities and covering half their faces - and we both were both more successful with our individual believes (eyes for N, mouth for me).

Not enough, a couple days back I had read this article how Japanese express their emotions or recognize emotions through their eyes and Westerns through the mouth. The article made the example showing happy and sad smilies: :-) and :-( in the West; (^_^) and (;_;) in Japan.

Maybe that is why my husband always insists, he can only see the true me, if I do not wear my glasses.
