Independence Day 2009
We drove up to Maine leaving Bristol and it's 4th of July craziness behind. It was a wonderful sunny day. We left the highway in Salisbury and drove along the coast, watching early morning runners and surfers at the beach. In Portsmouth, NH we had an early lunch at the local Farmer's Market. They even had local Mead, music and people were just really nice. It is a cute town, we should definetely come back. We followed the coast up to Ogunquit, where we stopped and went for a walk and had another lunch (a classical Lobster roll). We saw thunderstorm clouds forming and first thunder roaring, so we hurried back to the car and drove up to Portland. Here, we strolled along the old city along the harbor, enjoyed some icecream and ended our tour with some crepes in a small restaurant. On the way back, we watched the sunset on Cape Elizabeth at the light house - it was picture postcard perfect. Back on the highway we saw the fireworks along the way in different cities. What a fun and relaxing day!
