The third day.

We went to the Kettle Pond for a stroll. Winter is really here - the ground is frozen, the leaves have fallen, the sky has this wintery gray, right before the next storm (which we'll expect tonight).
Beautiful red sumac - we've made tea from it; the birds wait until later in the winter before pecking these seeds - maybe other seeds and berries are yummier or more nutritious.

A surprise - we saw a barred owl during daytime - just about 10m next to the trail on a branch.

A little oak full of "Gallaepfel".
Catching a frozen fish at the frozen Watchaug pond.
Lychen - it grows so slowly, and this part is probably 7-8 years old!

Wild growing holly.
