Italy - Frasassi Caves

The next morning we enjoyed our breakfast at the bed and breakfast. The owners spoke as much English as we did Italian, but thanks to google translate we could write our questions and read our answers without a problem.

View of the Gorge from the B&B.
We were not allowed to take photos inside the caves, but the wikipedia gives some good impressions.
The caves were pretty impressively large and beautiful, it was easy loose a sense of scale inside. Later we had lunch in San Vittore.
Waiting at a Roman bridge for the local dinosaur museum to open. There are many fossils in the chalkstone to be found.

 Two cousins.
 Obaachan with Akira and Silvan.

In the valley is a church in a cave.

African Violets were blooming everywhere on the ground.

This praying mantis quickly switched into warrior pose once we tried to catch her.

The cave behind the curch was pretty deep, we only went inside so far. Thanks to my well-prepared mother-in-law we even had some flashlights on us.

Right next to it was another little cave, and we explored this one as well.
View from another little chapel build by and hermit.
View of a Madonna from the window.

To wait for dinner we spent time at the river. The river was pretty sulfurous, which is also the reason for the origin of the caves, as sulfur eating bacteria were chomping away on the calcite rocks.
 Catching fish for dinner.
